Sourceforge Bundles MALWARE!!!

A few people I know were trying to get filezilla FTP from sourceforge and recently since Dice took over SF, a lot of software from that site has malware bundled with it in the installer. They no longer give you a normal installer, instead it's a custom one with adware that still gets installed EVEN IF YOU OPT OUT! Lots of anti-virus clients are even blocking the installers from even being executed. I recommend going with GITHUB or MS's codeplex What's worse is devs like filezilla DEFEND this decision! Check out the thread here:  https://forum.filezilla-project.org/viewtopic.php?t=32945 It's very bad that the dev of one of many projects hosted on sourceforge DEFENDS this and they think it's "no biggie" if people get infected! Intead of hosting elsewhere they defend a bad choice. Instead of on the users side they keep with a bad host. Many devs are choosing to do this and I will be compiling a list of known applications from SF you should avoid du...

Issues that Amped wireless needs to address

Issues that Amped wireless needs to address 1)The lack of firmware upgrades. They have still not released a firmware upgrade for the RTA15, which left many people in the dark, including me. They dodge questions about it and neglect the product. They also won’t fix driver issues with the ACA1 USB adapter and the PCI20E refuses to work on server operating systems. I was unable to even review that unit due to that issue. They flat out said they would never support server releases of windows, even though it’s a good idea to do so. Some servers might need to have an extra wireless adapter for failover with NIC teams. 2)They Ignore most of the problems on thier forums and have a ‘approval process’ which censors issues from potential users and reflects very negatively on them. This makes them look shady. I’ve never seen this on other manufacturer’s forums. 3)They ignore my suggestions as a reviewer and I have never had one of my suggestions implemented in a product change. I’ve had ...

Amped Wireless UA230 USB2.0 802.11ac WLAN adapter

Image
Intro: The Amped Wireless UA230 is Amped’s latest high powered wifi USB adapter.  It has 20dBm output power, and a 3dBi external high gain antenna. Setup: It was pretty much plug and play on windows server 2012. I plugged it in and windows detected it as a Realtek RTL8811AU Wireless LAN 802.11ac USB 2.0 Network Adapter. No drivers are needed if it’s done that way. After that I wanted to use it in my laptop and I installed drivers according to instructions and rebooted and then plugged in the adapter. It took a while to install the Amped UA230 driver and after a while windows 7 fell back to the same Realtek RTL8811AU driver instead. After that, however it did connect to a network effortlessly. Even faster than the built in one the laptop has.  Test rig specs: Specs of server : Intel i53570K/16GB Corsair XMS3 DDR3 1600 RAM/Nvidia Geforce 650Ti/Samsung 840 120GB SSD/Windows Server 2012 Standard/Realtek GBE NIC Specs of Client: HP2000-412NR...
